Many of my shoots are based loosely around a story in my head. Some of my personal favourites have had the strongest story behind them. Sometimes I lose track of the story and things go awry or sometimes it is more of a theme than a story. But anyway I do believe that photographers who have a strong idea or story in their head are more likely to nail their creative shots, given a modicum of skill and a good eye of course!
In this latest shoot I recruited Louise as model and Jessica as MUA to tell a little story, a lonely woman walking one evening, a little sad, a little melancholy, quite contemplative. I returned to a couple of favourite haunts for this piece, taking advantage of a glorious sunny evening (though you might not tell given the tones I ended up with). The strong evening light gave me some strong shadows and steep tonal gradients which helped to convey the mood and story I was aiming for, though it was a bit of a struggle to find the right balance at times and poor Louise did end up a little dazzled.
