As a wedding photographer I’m always trying to find new and better ways to interact with my customers.
I’m a great believer in face to face meetings, getting to know the couple and their plans and working with them to tailor my photography to their wedding.
That said the contract signing and payment of the booking fee isn’t always done at that initial face to face meeting. Or we might have talked at a wedding show and you might have made your decision later, but not feel the need to meet up again.
With everybody’s busy lives and as I cover weddings throughout Scotland this new service is proving more convenient for some of the couples I deal with. It also removes the pressure of the “hard sell”, giving the couple time to review the contract and make their decision on their preferred package at their leisure.
I can present the couple with a choice of quotes covering packages or options that they might have shown an interest in. They can then pick their preferred quote, review the contract and make a direct secure payment using PayPal. If they prefer they can make the payment offline via a bank transfer, cheque etc. I’m hoping that as my business grows I’ll also be able to offer the option of Debit/Credit Card payment through the online service.
As a member of the Guild of Photographers my contract is pretty straightforward. I try to ensure that the couple know what to expect from their photography, outlining what can be done if things go wrong and addressing issues like copyright and picture usage. If they’re reviewing it online then they can of course always ask me any questions they might have before signing. The contract allows the couple to sign the contract digitally and creates a digital signature that is appended to the contract and sent to them and me as a pdf file. If they make their payment of the booking fee then they will also receive a pdf receipt for their payment through this online service.
A few weeks before the wedding the couple will be sent the invoice for the balance of their wedding fee and can pay the same way. This can either be issued automatically 3 weeks before the wedding or at an earlier or later date by arrangement.
The advantage of using PayPal is that it provides couples with a secure way of paying and for me as a small business it doesn’t incur excessive charges.
I can also use this same service for any kind of photo shoot, from family events to graduation balls, so it is very versatile. I select the applicable contract from templates I have written up for different types of occasion and each quote is personalised to the customer’s requirements.
So you see folks, I don't just take photographs, I'm also constantly looking at better ways to do business and to provide a better service to you!
