Erica Von Stein: Posted on 15 April 2013 11:10
(Duncan:-every now and then I will include a guest appearance on the blog, this time it's for a film maker seeking to produce a short film on mental illness, combining art and serious issues. A project I think is worthy of being supported, so please, if you can, help out with the crowd funding!) The Eyes and Ears of Van Gogh. What is this film about? The film is a short experimental art piece based on the artist Van Gogh. Purely fiction, the film explores the early life of Van Gogh in a contemporary style. After the tragic death of his fiancee, the artist struggles to cope with mental illness. When he hits rock bottom and decides to end it all, he is visited by the ghost of his fiancee, his “muse”, but can she really save him? Why do we want to make this film? This film explores mental illness in a way that has never been done. By combining illness and art and proving that there is beauty in everything. The film looks at depression, grief, loss, suicide, manic depression, bi-polar and so much more. Van Gogh’s last words were “The sadness will never end” - we want to prove that the sadness will end in an inspiring uplift that will show people that there are always silver linings. Who’s in it? We have some very established Scottish actors interested and until the funding is confirmed we cannot mention anything because nothing is secure. Who is Erica Von Stein? Erica Von Stein is a published poet and author from Glasgow, she graduated from University of West Scotland with a degree in Filmmaking and has since then worked on a number of exciting projects. She holds creative writing workshops around Glasgow and has won awards for her writing. Her last film Resurrectio was screened at the Berwick film festival and her latest project dysfunctional family received over 70,000 youtube hits in one week. She will be filming with a team of highly talented film school graduates and guarantees this film will be her best work yet. Why do you need crowd funding? I have invested a lot of personal money and time into the project, spending over £3000 on a new camera and equipment to make the film the best it possibly can be. If I could do it all myself then I wouldn’t reach out for help but unfortunately it is not possible to do alone. This is where I ask for the help of the public. To anyone who has suffered mental illness or knows anyone who have, help us by donating as little as £10 to the cause. We have just one month left to raise the funding and time is quickly running out. In return for your promises we will credit you on the film, invite you to our screening, wrap party, offer you signed photos/props and so much more. Please help us bring this project to life by visiting the link and making a promise.

Christine Watson: Posted on 25 June 2012 06:02
The second of my guest blogs is another profile. This time from the perspective of one of Scotland's designers. I met Christine through nicci.n and have had the good fortune to shoot some of her pieces on location and in the studio. She likes to mix fabrics and materials to create exciting and deceptively simple looking clothes. The picture below is from a 2011 shoot with the models, Nicole Abbott and Gemma Chan. C.Watson I graduated from Heriot Watt University (Scottish Boarders) with a Masters Degree in 2010.Whilst studying at the campus I had the opportunity to do work experience with the university as a Garment Technologist. This entailed assisting the fashion and textile design students during their studies. After I graduated from Heriot Watt I remained at the campus and continued to work on a volunteer, and this allowed me to work closely with the staff as well as the academic students. Working for the university gave me great opportunities to prosper as a designer myself, by allowing me access to facilities and allowing me to take part in a competition for the university for the Converge Challenge. This meant having to compete with other students and staff ranging from engineers to scientists from other universities across Scotland. The aim of the competition is to come up with a good business plan, the winner receives £25,000 to start up their own business. Through the competition I was able to find an appropriate name, C.Watson, and am now director/designer for this Brand and have been able to takepart in some of the Fashion events in Glasgow and Edinburgh to help me establish my own brand presence. Through mycollege and uni life I have had the privilege to work alongside my very goodfriend Nicola Napier who has also flourished with her own brand name nicci.n. I was able to work with Nicola and help with the production of a collection that she had designed for a boutique in Edinburgh. We were also given the opportunity by another good friend Katy Bell to display our labels in her boutique in Edinburgh called De La Sole. The shop allowed me to look at potential customers; surprisingly I soon discovered that my market would open up to a wider audience who would gladly be seen to be wearing my label. I have gained a lot in these past few years and I have been lucky enough to have worked with some of the most talented people within the Fashion industry. Also to witnessand watch a number of young graduates go on to flourish and to maketheir names in the world. I was also proud at the fact that 6 of the students from Heriot Watt were up for nominations at the Scottish awards as young graduates, and knowing that next year there could be more students going up for an award from Heriot Watt. I have continued with the quest to produce more for the C.Watson brand and look forward to entering the fashion events e.g. Inspire the Attire 2 on 17th August. Through another event with the Bold Souls ‘’Prohibition Glamour’’, I was given the offer to sell my label in Anthea’s boutiques in Edinburgh. I have also been given another opportunity to enter my business idea for the Converge Challenge at the university for the third time, in the hope that one day I will be able to produce a lot more for the C.Watson brand. I hope that one day I will have a boutique of my own.

Adele Robertson: Posted on 21 June 2012 19:22
So the first of my guest blogs is a wee piece about G2E Events. I first met Adele at a charity photoshoot day in aid of Red Nose Day and have watched her events team develop and grow over the last couple of years. Don't forget the Inspire the Attire 2 show on 17th August at the Tall Ship. Some of Scotland's star designers, models and a great venue, all for a noble cause. FashionEvent Management Contact: Adele Robertson, Co-owner and Founder of G2E Events. Rebecca Tait,Co-owner of G2E Events.
G2E Events was founded back in2010 by myself, Adele Robertson and shortly before planning my first eventInspire the Attire, I posted looking for dressers and was extremely impressedby one of the girl’s – Becky Tait. Since then I asked her to join me and thatis when G2E formed. After our success of Inspire theAttire, we showcased an exhibition for Scottish Fashion Award nominee DavidBlack which received an astounding amount of positive feedback. We wereextremely fond of this particular event as we only had a few weeks to planeverything and David Black is only one of the designers we have seen growthoroughout the past year and we are proud to have been a part of that. We have our sequel event coming upon Friday 17 August which will be held at The Tall Ship at Riverside, the team fellin love with this venue and knew it was the one – who says true love doesn’t exist! Originally, I started up G2EEvents as I wanted to produce a fashion event in aid of Diabetes UK as my lategrandmother suffered from Diabetes type 2 so I guess it was my way of givingback to the most inspirational woman in my life. I thrived on being constantlybusy, emails pouring in and meetings every day of the week. Without soundingcheesy it’s a buzz/adrenaline inside and it’s hard to get rid of! This industryis one of the toughest in the world and being able to help just one creative isenough to keep us going with showcasing the success of all creatives. Ofcourse, there is a lot of competition out there and I’ll put my hands up, itdoes get tough and it does get too much at times but I just remind myself whyI’m doing this and I’ve took the approach to just stay positive and keep doingwhat I love, which is showcasing talented creatives in the fashion world. As well as me and Becky we have ourtwo interns Zoe Waters and Shavonne Higgins. These girls are a god send, I donot know what I’d do without them, it’s hard to gain loyalty within a team andwe struck lucky with our girls. We never work on the basis that they are‘interns’ and are less important – we work as a team and I hope we remain likethis for a very long time. What’s next for G2E Events? AfterInspire the Attire 2, we are taking a few months to study the business side ofevent planning as we hope to make it a full time job. We believe in our team, which is success to us already.

Duncan: Posted on 21 June 2012 15:25
So I post occasionally to my blog with tales of derrign do, photoshoots and weddings. I thought it might be interesting, as much for the fun of doing it as anything, to invite some of my colleagues from the worlds of weddings, beauty, modelling and fashion to write a few words now and then as guest bloggers. So over the next weeks, interspersed with my own ramblings, I may be featuring some posts from different folk about a fairly random selection of topics, all loosely related to what I do, take pictures. There will of course be the occasional post from yours truly as well, as the summer progresses. If you want to comment or discuss any of the posts that will follow you can use the comment feature on the blog. Though I should warn you that I'll be vetting comments to eliminate spam and obscenity. Any reasonable discourse will be welcomed. Posts will appear, as and when they are submitted, so keep an eye peeled!
